Making Love in a Canoe wraps up

The Golden Apple Theatre’s production of Making Love In A Canoe has now wrapped up, after playing to enthusiastic crowds for five performances plus a preview.
Created and performed by Regina-born Kyle Golemba, Making Love in a Canoe is a celebration of the finest in Canadian musical theatre.
Kyle has spent the last six years performing in a wide range of productions in theatres coast-to-coast, including four seasons at the Stratford Shakespeare Festival. After Canoe, he will be returning for his fifth season to play Andy Lee in 42nd Street. Past Stratford credits include Kiss Me, Kate (Gremio), West Side Story (A-rab), Evita, Fuente Ovejuna, The Music Man, The Grapes of Wrath, Jesus Christ Superstar, and Cyrano de Bergerac, as well as several understudy performances of Che in Evita, Bill in Kiss Me, Kate, Peter in Jesus Christ Superstar, and Connie Rivers in The Grapes of Wrath. Kyle also appeared in the Toronto transfer of A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum. His other credits include Gilbert in Anne of Green Gables for Stage West, Rolf in The Sound of Music for Neptune Theatre, Roy in Anne and Gilbert for the Harbourfront Jubilee Theatre, and Prince Christopher in Cinderella for the Grand Theatre. Making Love in a Canoe has been performed across the country, most recently at the prestigious Stratford Summer Music in August 2011.

The Performers
Kyle Golemba is thrilled to be making his hometown debut with The Golden Apple! Since graduating from college, he’s appeared in such shows as: Anne of Green Gables (Gilbert, Stage West); The Sound of Music (Rolf, Neptune Theatre); Anne and Gilbert (Roy, Harbourfront Jubilee Theatre); and Cinderella (Prince Christopher, Grand Theatre). His film/TV credits include: Queer As Folk (Showtime) and Hairspray (New Line Cinema). After Canoe, he will be returning to the Stratford Shakespeare Festival for his fifth season, appearing in The Pirates of Penzance and as Andy Lee in 42nd Street. In previous seasons, he has played Gremio in Kiss Me, Kate, A-rab in West Side Story, and appeared as an understudy as Bill (Kate), Connie (The Grapes of Wrath), Peter (Jesus Christ Superstar), and Che (Evita). Adam White is happy to visit Regina with Making Love in a Canoe, and Golden Apple Theatre. Billy Bishop Goes to War ends successful run

Billy Bishop Goes to War has closed, after a fantastic two-week run at the Artesian on 13th (2627 13th Ave.) November 9-13 and 15-20.
The Golden Apple Theatre’s production of the Canadian classic, written and composed by John Gray in collaboration with Eric Peterson, was directed by Robert Ursan and starred Ryland Alexander and Wayne Gwillim.
Ryland Alexander is a recently returned Regina-based artist who has had the good fortune of working across the country and overseas. He recently finished filming 13 Eerie with Mind’s Eye Entertainment and enjoyed being a WWI hero by day and a zombie at night during this rehearsal process. Selected credits include: Theatre—As You Like It, A Christmas Carol, Julius Caesar (Citadel Theatre), Keeping Peace (Surreal SoReal Theatre), Are We There…Yet? (Concrete Theatre), Creation of the World and Other Business, Progress and Procrastination, Never Swim Alone (The System Theatre), Love’s Labour’s Lost, Henry IV Part I, The Taming of the Shrew, and Julius Caesar (Shakespeare In The Park). Film—Blood in the Water (Discovery Channel), InSecurity, The Englishman’s Boy, Prairie Giant: The Tommy Douglas Story (CBC), Hemmorage (Independent). Education—MA in Theatre Practices (Directing) Rose Bruford College, BFA in Drama (Acting) University of Alberta.
Wayne Gwillim is a Toronto-based musician. He grew up on a farm between Strasbourg and Duval—85 km north of Regina—and is a graduate of Luther College High School. Wayne was involved with musical and theatrical organizations while living in Saskatchewan, including Regina Lions Jr. Band, Do It With Class, and Regina Lyric Musical Theatre. After graduation, he pursued studies at University of Toronto’s Faculty of Music. Wayne now makes his living as a freelance music director, arranger, and vocal coach. Recent credits: assistant music director for Andrew Lloyd Webber’s production of The Sound of Music (Mirvish Productions), alternate keyboardist/vocalist for Jersey Boys (Dancap Productions), and several seasons at the Shaw Festival. Billy Bishop marks Wayne’s first professional gig in his home province.
Casting announced for Jacques Brel is Alive and Well and Living in Paris

The Golden Apple Theatre is pleased to announce the director and cast for its first production, Jacques Brel is Alive and Well and Living in Paris, which runs November 17 to 28, 2010, at The Artesian on 13th.
The director will be Geoffrey Whynot, well-known to Saskatchewan theatre audiences for his work as an actor and director at Globe Theatre over the past several years.
The cast will feature Golden Apple Theatre’s own artistic directors, Robert Ursan and Andorlie Hillstrom, along with Regina natives (now gone on to professional careers elsewhere) Ingrid Nilson and Jeff Irving.
Full biographies and photos of the cast will be forthcoming as the production nears.

The Golden Apple Theatre’s inaugural season was profiled in today’s Regina Leader-Post. It begins:
This fall, there will be a new professional theatre company in Regina. Andorlie Hillstrom and Robert Ursan — who long have been driving forces behind amateur and instructional theatre in the city — are teaming up once again, this time as co-artistic directors of The Golden Apple Theatre.
“We wanted to start a company that would be to some extent an extension of things that we’ve done up to this point, but we wanted to be able to take it into the professional realm,” said Ursan.

Bologne, A Tale in 3 Symphonic Acts
Adapted from the Novel by Pascal Blanchet, Production Conception by Andorlie Hillstrom
The curvy, retro lines and atmospheric panels of Canadian Pascal Blanchet’s graphic novel are brought to life in this original dance theatre piece. Russian fatalism sets the tone as the cast shares the tale of a village butcher, his disabled daughter, and her tutor in their doomed uprising against the swaggering Duke Shostokov. Light struggles to emerge from the darkness and endurance makes way for heroism, but does anything really change? Bologne is a smoldering call to arms against heartlessness and greed.

Ticket prices
Ticket prices for these productions will be $32.50 for adults, $20 for students (under 18 or with a student card), $15 for Wednesday previews, and $10 for student matinées. All prices include GST. Festival Seating will apply. Advance ticket outlets will be announced at a later date.
Venue
The Golden Apple Theatre is also excited to announce that it will be using the Artesian on 13th as its performance venue for the season. Built in 1950, the former church at 2627 – 13th Avenue has been restored into a new and intimate performance space that its owners have designed “to arouse a forgotten sense of belonging and purpose in both the performers and their audience, honoring and encouraging high-calibre talent with an appreciative, attentive audience.”
